The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says physicians should stop prescribing combination drugs with more than 325 milligrams (mg) of acetaminophen. Combining pain killers and other drugs can be very dangerous.
Acetaminophen is available in prescription pain-relieving medications like Percocet and Vicodin in which it is combined with opioids, as well as over the counter (OTC) drugs like Tylenol. The FDA says there is no evidence that taking more than 325 mg in a combination pill provides any additional benefit, and too much acetaminophen puts people at risk of severe liver injury. “Many consumers are often unaware that many products (both prescription and OTC) contain acetaminophen, making it easy to accidentally take too much,” the agency said.
The FDA is now asking doctors not to prescribe pain relievers that contain more than 325 mg of acetaminophen, since people may take these drugs along with OTC medications and expose themselves to potentially harmful levels of the medication. In 2011 the agency asked manufacturers of acetaminophen-combined prescription drugs to limit the amount of acetaminophen to no more than 325 mg by 2014. More than half have agreed, but medications with higher amounts are still on the market. The FDA says it plans to start withdrawing approval of combination drugs requiring prescriptions that exceed this limit.
For now, the new recommendation to physicians only applies to prescription drugs with acetaminophen, and not to over-the-counter drugs like Tylenol, but the FDA says it will address those in a separate regulatory action. The agency is also recommending that pharmacists who receive prescriptions for drugs with more than 325 mg per dose call the prescribing physician and inform him of the FDA’s new warning.

The researchers had a closer look at the skin of the mice and found that the skin was leaky and lost more water than a normal rat. Researchers found that when the mice lost water they also lost heat. This made the researchers think this heat and water loss was the reason behind fat accumulation in the livers of the rats.
The researchers were correct in their reasoning. The knock-out mice with skin and fur problems had more liver-related problems. In order to confirm this correlation between the liver and skin of knock-out mice, some petroleum jelly and liquid latex was applied to their fur coat which marked an end to the heat and water loss in the mice. It is considered the most serious form of hepatitis, hepatitis translated means inflammation of the liver.
Symptoms of Hepatitis C:
Symptoms of Hepatitis C include fatigue, loss of appetite, jaundice, fever, nausea, and muscle aches and pains. A blood test will show elevated liver enzymes and your doctor may order a liver biopsy to check the extent of damage.If cirrhosis does occur it may come with those symptoms plus weakness, breast enlargement in men, a rash on the palms of the hands, weight loss, difficulty with blood clotting, and spider-like blood vessels on the skin.
People at high-risk include those who have injected illicit drugs, health care workers who have had needle sticks, babies born to mothers with the disease, those with HIV infections, people who received blood or organ transplants before 1992, those born between 1945-65, those with long-term hemodialysis treatments, and those who have had a $e*u@l partner who has it.
Your treatment will depend on your doctor and the severity of the damage, you may initially require no treatment. Antivirals are sometimes prescribed to clear the virus from your system if possible, a liver transplant may be needed in severe cases, and being vaccinated against other types of hepatitis may be prudent.
For at home care you should stop drinking alcohol, it speeds up the disease progression, avoid medications that may damage the liver, and protect your family and friends from your razors, and keep any cuts or wounds closed. Make sure any healthcare workers who are changing bandages, taking blood, or giving shots know of your disease status.
Alternative Remedies for Hepatitis C:
There are various alternative remedies that can be tried, some with more success than others, bodies react differently to different substances, what worked for a friend’s cousin may not work for you and vice versa, find a doctor willing to work with you in your search for natural cures and follow their advice and your own common sense.
1- Milk Thistle
– the most studied and well-known liver supplement, can reduce liver inflammation and has antiviral properties to help rid you of the virus. This herb is safe with few side effects and has been shown to help those with Hepatitis C, reviews are mixed when it comes to liver function and it may not be helpful to a seriously damaged liver.
2- Licorice Root
– studies indicate it improves liver function and may reduce complications of Hepatitis C, it should be used with caution and under medical advice as it can interfere with some medications with dangerous effects and has some side effects of its own, including hypertension and salt and water retention.
3- Thymus Extract
– some believe that it may help regulate immune function, this has not been proved and should be avoided by those with autoimmune diseases.
– most popular for adding energy and boosting the immune system, this has been touted as a helper for the liver for its immune boosting properties, adequate studies have not been done, it will not hurt you and may possibly help. It can reduce blood sugar and increase bleeding, be aware.
– popular in Japanese medicine for antiviral properties, has shown some success in studies
6- St John’s Wort
– used with conventional treatment to help counter the effects, studies show it to be an effective remedy for those with mild to moderate depression
7- Lactoferrin – a protein found in milk, may improve liver function and lower levels of the Hepatitis C virus
People often utilize acupuncture, massage, and relaxation therapy to cope with the disease. When it comes to chronic illness do what makes you feel better, don’t be afraid to experiment in a safe way. Rest when you are tired, eat clean, cut sugar and unhealthy fats, exercise, and enjoy life.
The human liver is an important bodily organ essential for living a healthy life. Its primary function is to breakdown nutrients from the food we eat and help with digestion. It performs several other functions which makes it important to pay attention to the health of your liver. Here are symptoms of liver damage that should be taken seriously:
1. Skin and Nail Changes
One visible symptom of liver damage changes in the color of your skin. If your skin starts becoming paler or yellowish and your nail tips turn yellow your liver is not performing well and requires help. Newly yellow tints in the skin are caused by the liver not releasing toxins which leads to bilirubin accumulation beneath the skin. If you frequently suffer from a gassy sensation accompanied by stool pressure its an indication that the liver is not able to secrete digestive juices which are essential to break down food. It also means the digestive system is affected by liver problems.
When the liver breaks down food it releases energy used to perform daily tasks. Getting tired easily is a sign of lack of energy which can indicate the liver is unable to do its job properly.
5. Urine Changes
When our liver starts getting damaged the color of urine changes to darker variants of yellow. It may also become bloody or tar-colored. Some think this change in color is due to dehydration, if you are ingesting sufficient fluids it indicates poor liver health.
6. Itchy Skin
An indicator of liver problems associated with skin is itchiness. If you find itchy areas on your skin that continuously get worse its a sign of liver problems.
Digestive issues such as indigestion and acid reflux are symptoms of liver damage. If digestive problems or nausea does not improve with dietary changes its a sign of liver damage. In severe cases, it may also lead to vomiting.
8. Severe Weight Loss
Sudden, unplanned weight loss can be seen as a symptom of liver damage. If you are losing weight without trying it may be from loss of appetite which happens when the liver becomes weak making you thin and malnourished.
9. Fluid Retention
Fluid retention in various parts of the body, especially feet, is a sign of a weak liver. This condition is known as edema and looks like swelling, it can happen in your ankles, hands, feet, and thighs. If you press a finger gently into a swollen area the imprint will stay a few seconds with edema.
10. Stool Changes
Changes in stool can indicate liver problems. If you observe traces of blood in the bathroom, call your doctor. Other signs of liver damage associated with stool may include periods of constipation or irritable bowel syndrome.
Hepatitis B infection is a very infectious liver disease. A blood test will show if you have hepatitis B. Also an early diagnosis of hepatitis B will help protect your liver from further aggressive damage. Here is a list of the top symptoms and signs of hepatitis B infection:
1. If you had a closeness with a person who has hepatitis B infection: It’s important to know that oral contact can transmit the hepatitis B virus too.
2. If you are feeling sick to your stomach or vomiting: Also if you have stomach pain or an unexplained abnormal liver enzyme test you might have hepatitis B.
3. If you have HIV:
10% of people diagnosed with HIV are also infected with hepatitis B or hepatitis C.
4. If you use needles that aren’t sterile: It could vary from dental work, medical procedures, tattooing, body piercing, also injected drugs, for the Virus to be transmitted.
13 years ago in the United States, there were close to 22,000 acute hepatitis B and 78,000 new hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections, an estimated 29% of these cases were in former inmates.
6. Men who have contact with men: hepatitis B is most common among men who have closeness with other men and can have potentially serious long-term effects.
8. If you had an organ transplant or take medications that suppress the immune system, such as anti-rejection medications, you are at a higher risk of hepatitis B infection.
this is the most common way the virus is passed on is from an infected mother to her baby, 9 out of 10 infants,30 out of 100 children younger than age 5 are unable to clear HBV from their bodies and become chronically infected.
10. If you have any of the following physical symptoms: Jaundice, this means yellowish eyes and skin it shows only after other symptoms have started to go away, Skin rash, muscle, and/or joint pain.

Many of us grew up with the Wonder Bread commercial telling us how it “helps build strong bodies 12 ways!” What the commercial failed to tell us is that Americans have been consuming “enriched” or “fortified” white flour since the 1940’s and it is slowly killing them.
The problem is that white flour is “enriched” or “fortified” with rock forms of iron. That’s correct, they literally take iron ore, pulverize it, and add it to white flour.
Yes, it’s true, iron is vital to make a substance in your body called tyrosine, but over time, rock iron accumulation signals the liver not to absorb more iron so it can’t make tyrosine.

Anytime that I see a patient suffering from a hormone problem (male or female whether increased or decreased), an iron problem (including serum iron, ferritin, transferrin and/or TIBC), a problem with RBCs, or a B-vitamin (esp. B12 or folic acid), I immediately start thinking that the patient is suffering from a liver disorder. The liver is the cause!
Think for a minute about the functions of the liver. The liver is important for…
• Bile production and excretion
• Excretion of bilirubin, cholesterol, hormones, and drugs
• Metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates
• Enzyme activation
• Storage of glycogen, vitamins, and minerals
• Synthesis of plasma proteins, such as albumin, and clotting factors
• Blood detoxification and purification
Can you see why the liver is such a major player in our health?
The main reason why many doctors fail to address liver disorders is that the lab ranges of the liver enzymes and other tests are very broad. The liver enzymes are normally contained in the cells and if the liver is injured or damaged, the liver cells spill the enzymes into the blood.
The lab range for the liver enzymes ALT (SGPT) and AST (SGOT) are 10-40 (and I have seen some labs go as high as 10-60), while the functional or optimal range is 10-26! A patient can have an ALT range of 35 and an AST reading of 37 and their physician will tell them that their liver function is “normal.” No, it’s not, and it needs to be addressed for them to regain their health!
Many doctors are addressing thyroid patients BUT they are not addressing the patient’s liver issues and this is flat out wrong! The liver plays a major role in thyroid function because 60% of T4 is converted to T3 in the liver. The other 20% of T4 is converted to T3 in the stomach (yet another reason why you need optimal amounts of stomach acid – please see my article on Methyl Groups) and the final 20% in the periphery.
T4 to T3 conversion is also dependent on zinc! Should thyroid patients gobble down handfuls of zinc supplements? No, I strongly feel that patients should get trace minerals from their diet. Beef, lamb, veal, crab, shrimp, scallops, turkey, pumpkin, sesame and squash seeds, oysters, peanuts, and yogurt all contain good levels of zinc.
Low levels of selenium will cause inactivity of T3 and that is also not good for a thyroid patient! Tuna, cod, halibut, sardines, shrimp, salmon, beef, turkey, and lamb all contain high levels of selenium.
In order for T3 to be accepted by the cells it needs calcium, magnesium and trace minerals. This is WHY it is vital to have sufficient mineral absorption and your pH between 6.4 and 7.0. (Please see my article on the importance of pH.)
Homocysteine is an amino acid that can be generated in response to a toxic or nutritionally deficient diet.
When homocysteine is increased in the blood, it is linked to massive inflammation and neurodegeneration!
In Alzheimer’s disease and many other chronic diseases, we find a significant increase in homocysteine in the blood tests. Since homocysteine is a powerful excitotoxin and neurotoxin, elevated homocysteine levels have been found to make symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and other chronic conditions worse. The metabolic breakdown components of homocysteine alter the NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptor sites, leading to multiple negative effects, including free radicals and a massive inflammatory cascade!
These free radicals and inflammation can trigger an autoimmune response in which the patient’s immune system attacks the thyroid gland and/or other body systems.
