What It’s Like To Have Dermatographia, A Condition That You Can Draw On Your Skin

Do you know any condition that lets you experiment with your body? Well… it definitely isn’t the flu! There are a few obnoxious skin conditions, like psoriasis, that bring you unbearable suffering. It appears that dermatographia is not the one. Some innovative “patients” actually made use of the condition to nourish their creative talents. They make art and share it with others. Let’s see what all the dermatographia fuss is about.

What It's Like To Have Dermatographia, A Condition That You Can Draw On Your Skin
What It’s Like To Have Dermatographia, A Condition That You Can Draw On Your Skin

Dermatographia also called “skin writing condition”, affects about 5 percent of the population. The skin of an affected person is special. It behaves in a way that sensitive skin does but the intensity of this responsiveness is taken to the extreme. It’s particularly responsive to the outer stimuli, even if only slightly brushed against something.

Dermatographia hyper-sensitizes the skin to touch, diet, stress, and chemicals. The skin of the person affected is extremely reactive every time even when it’s only rushed or scratched. The result of even slight touch, welts, lasts for about half an hour and doesn’t hurt. They can be itchy, though! It doesn’t have a known cause or cure, but there are a few smart ways to manage it. What helps to calm down the irritated skin? Normally, a natural oily moisturizer of almond or coconut will do the job. Another thing to take control of is stress. Good management in this field can work wonders for the skin.

Imagine that even a simple rubbing under the eye (we do it much more often than you imagine!), evokes an “OMG!” peer reaction each time because you look as if you were beaten up by your husband. This condition is a good gossip provoker! No wonder that sufferers aren’t filled with joy about having dermatographia at the beginning of their path. Those who aren’t attention-seeking stars, at first find it rather embarrassing to attract attention daily. Especially because it’s not about your intelligence, humor or cool fashion style, but a skin condition.

But there is someone who changed the way we think about the skin condition called dermatographia. Our female-hero discovered she had been suffering from dermatographia only many years after the condition took off. She was used to naming her skin “sensitive”. Once, when she scratched her knee, and a welt traditionally appeared, she liked it and shot a pic. Those initial artworks attracted the attention of her art school professor and peers. They convinced the girl to look for the reason for such an excessive skin reaction. Happily, the first dermatologist she went to, diagnosed her with dermatographia instantly. So the great unknown was finally uncovered!

The love and hate attitude to your skin is normal if you happen to have dermatographia – the artist confirms it with all her heart. She knows that while the condition isn’t debilitating, there are many aspects where social life shakes the “patient” and puts him or her in the feelings of shame and anxiety (especially at a young age, or when a welt is forming on the face). She claims that being constantly embarrassed by her skin among others wasn’t the solution in the long run. Sure it does behave unpredictably and weird, but loving and honoring it sounds much better than pure hatred.

After being encouraged by peers and teachers from the art field, she decided to pursue photographing her condition. Now she showcases her work on the webpage. This way, she not only met an entire community of people with dermatographia online (social media wins the world), but also helps them as a source of knowledge. Many doctors have never heard of this condition. Some people were never diagnosed before coming across her photos. She even affectionately calls others with this condition “skin writers”. There’s nothing as connecting and sharing!

To which level of craziness, did her creative liberation take her? She plays with skin-drawing with a stylus, like a knitting needle, to get some significantly pronounced welts. She doesn’t take it to the extreme, but using devices is a step further. What’s more, it’s not always spontaneous. Sometimes she creates freehand, but she also uses stencils prepared especially for this occasion.

All of a sudden, during group meetings she’s invited to, she shares her art are. It’s not about complaining about the skin condition but showcasing how she draws on it. And people find it remarkable! It makes her unique. Hiding her skin is not a case anymore. Just the opposite.

The Lump In This Woman’s Face Turned Out To Be A Liveworm

You might want to finish eating before reading this article. A Russian woman experienced her own real-life horror story when doctors uncovered the source of the mysterious moving bump in her face.

According to a publication in the New England Journal of Medicine, a 32-year old Russian woman went to the doctor after noticing a strange lump in her face that seemed to change position. At first, it was below her left eye. That’s strange, but most of us wouldn’t worry too much, especially if it went away. Five days later, however, the lump appeared again, this time above her eye.

The Lump In This Woman's Face Turned Out To Be A Liveworm

Now that’s weird. Things got even stranger when, after 10 days, the lump appeared in her lip. The intense swelling was unmistakable and enough cause for alarm that the woman finally sought medical treatment.

Doctors (and the patient) were horrified to discover the truth was literally living under her skin: a parasitic roundworm.

The worm, known as Dirofilaria repens, is a specific type of parasitic roundworm that infects people through mosquito bites. The Center for Disease Control explains that Dirofilaria can infect a variety of mammals; in dogs, they’re called “heartworms,” which many of us have heard of and even give our pets regular preventative medication for.

The CDC also describes the infection process; most of the larvae that enter the skin through a mosquito bite die, but the ones that live will grow and exist under the skin. Humans are considered “accidental hosts” and don’t typically contract or spread the disease.

It turns out that there are three different types of Dirofilaria that can infect human beings: D. immitisD. repens and D. tenuisD. tenuis is the aforementioned heartworm, but the Russian patient had contracted a D. repens parasitic worm in her face.

The New England Journal of Medicine

The good news is that this type of worm isn’t found in the United States; research shows multiple cases of humans with D. repens worms in Russia and Belarus; between June 1997 and 2013, there were 1,300 documented cases of women in the region who contracted the parasitic tapeworm. All of the women had visited rural areas shortly before the worm appeared, which is also the case for the patient in this story.

The doctors successfully removed the worm from the woman’s face, and she has since made a “full recovery” according to the journal. We’re all relieved, and this was a much-needed reminder to not skip out on insect repellent this summer.

Most Common Problems That Lead To Dermatologist Visit In Arizona

Most Common Problems That Lead To Dermatologist Visit In Arizona

Dermatologists treat a broad range of conditions and diseases, which are known to plague both adults, teenagers and young children. While primary care physicians will treat these conditions, some may not be qualified to diagnose and treat specific diseases related to the skin. Most dermatologists see patients of all ages, including newborns, children, adolescents, adults, and senior citizens. Below, you discover some of the most common problems that lead to a dermatologist visit in Arizona.

Most Common Problems That Lead To Dermatologist Visit In Arizona

Acne

Acne, acne vulgaris, is a skin condition that begins when dead skin cells and oil clog the pore. This is typically a long-term condition that is characterized by pimples, whiteheads, blackheads, potential scarring, and oily skin. In most cases, the acne will affect areas where there are a high number of oil glands, including the upper chest and back and face.

Some people will choose to treat their condition with home remedies, over-the-counter skin care products designed especially for acne and a diet low in simple sugars, while others will prefer a more aggressive treatment. Dermatologists tend to treat their patients in a holistic manner, as most will suffer from secondary problems related to their condition.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a very common autoimmune disease that is characterized by itchy, red and scaly skin patches that will appear almost anywhere on the body. Psoriasis is not only an irritating and embarrassing skin condition but also very unpredictable. In fact, the slightest trigger will cause a major eruption of red plaques covered with white scales to appear on the scalp, elbows, knees, palms, soles of the feet and torso.

Psoriasis is difficult to treat, since there are several types, making it extremely difficult to determine the actual diagnosis. This is why most people with psoriasis will choose to visit dermatology in Phoenix. These professionals are skilled and experienced in diagnosing and treating psoriasis.

Melanoma

Melanoma is classified as the “most serious type of skin cancer” that typically develops in the melanocytes that produce the pigment, melanin, that gives skin its color. Medical experts have not been able to determine the actual cause of melanomas, but previous research studies have revealed that melanoma is caused by exposure to ultraviolet radiation from tanning lamps and sunlight. Individuals who spend a lot of time outdoors and do not utilize sunscreen with UV protection are at a higher risk of developing melanoma.

The first signs of melanoma are changes in an existing mole and development of an unusual or new pigmented-growth on the skin. These changes will warrant a visit to a licensed dermatologist who will examine, diagnose and treat the condition appropriately to prevent further complications.

Rashes

Skin rashes can appear out of nowhere, causing concern much concern. It can be extremely difficult to determine the actual cause of a skin rash because the possibilities are many. This is why most people who experience a skin rash will visit a dermatologist who will diagnose and treat the condition. Rashes are caused by anxiety, food allergies, skin contact with an irritant, reaction to medications and vaccinations, shingles, eczema, and contact dermatitis.

How to Combat the Signs of Aging without Surgical Procedures

Aging is one of those things people both embrace and fight all at the same time. Even though you may feel confident in yourself and who you are, it can be difficult to watch your body change, especially when it comes to the lines and wrinkles that begin forming on your face. It can be a strange thing to look in the mirror and not recognize the face staring back.

How to Combat the Signs of Aging without Surgical Procedures.

If you’re ready to start combating the signs of aging but aren’t interested in any surgical procedures, then here are some tips you can use that will help slow down the process – and even reverse some of the signs.

Invest in Good Quality Skincare

Now is not the time to be skipping steps when it comes to your skincare routine, nor should you be using products that aren’t formulated for your skin type and skin concerns. As you start to age, it’s quite normal to lose the moisture and elasticity in your skin. Picking products that address these concerns and using ingredients meant to target these issues will allow you to get some real results.

Take, for example, Dermaset Skincare, which is meant to act as an all-in-one solution for aging skin. This product combines a number of potent ingredients that not only work to add moisture to your skin but also even out the skin tone and smooth out the look of the fine lines and wrinkles. Ingredients such as Argireline extract, apple stem cells, edelweiss stem cells, and sea fennel stem cells provide your skin with the nutrients it is lacking.

Keep Yourself Hydrated

Just as you are feeding your skin from the outside with good skin care products, you also need to feed it from the inside. Making sure you are well-hydrated and drinking enough water in a day helps to keep your skin soft and smooth. This is even more important during the long cold and dry winter months.

Cut Out the Cigarettes

If you happen to be a smoker, now is the time to give serious thought to quitting. Not only is smoking harmful to your health, as you well know, it’s also incredibly damaging to your skin. Studies have shown that it can speed up the development of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, which will make you appear older than you are.

Don’t Forget Your Fruits and Vegetables

We’ve all heard the saying “you are what you eat” and it really is true. Making sure you get a healthy dose of colorful and vitamin-rich fruits and vegetables will not only help your body but it will provide it with the antioxidants needed to fight free radicals. Free radicals cause the visible signs of aging.

No Need to Resort to Surgical Procedures

Just because you want to slow down and reverse the signs of aging, it doesn’t mean you need to resort to drastic measures and surgery. Instead, follow these tips and you’ll start to see the results you’re after.

10 Early Warning Signs of Lupus You Need to Know

Recently, the actress and singer Selena Gomez had to receive a kidney transplant. Her best friend, Francia Raisa, donated the kidney. Selena Gomez needed a kidney transplant because she has lupus, and this disease had destroyed her kidney. What exactly is lupus? How can the average person spot the early warning signs of lupus before it causes medical problems such as this?

10 Early Warning Signs of Lupus You Need to Know

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation throughout the body. An autoimmune disease means that the body’s immune system attacks the body’s own tissues. Lupus is notorious for being very hard to diagnose because each person who has it can have a very different set of symptoms. The early signs of lupus generally start in early adulthood. Being educated about the symptoms of this disorder can help people who have it receive the proper treatment early on so that dangerous complications such as loss of a kidney do not occur.

The exact cause of lupus is unknown. Experts believe it may be a combination of genetics, environment, and hormones. Women are 9 times more likely to have lupus than men. African Americans are 3 to 4 times more likely to have lupus than Caucasians.

This has brought a lot of confusion but a homemade DIY Vitamin C serum for your face can work wonderfully. It can provide you with a lot of benefits that many products in the market could be missing.

You are aware that eating foods rich in vitamin C, such as citrus fruits, dark leafy greens, and berries can significantly benefit your body externally and internally. Incorporating vitamin C in your regular meals can act a regimen to help in the repair and growth of your skin tissue. Vitamin C is loaded with powerful antioxidants that shield your skin against free radicals in your body.

Homemade DIY Vitamin C Serum for Your Skin

How Does Vitamin C Make You Youthful?

Naturally, vitamin C contains antioxidants. Although many plants synthesize vitamin C into useful forms, your body can’t because it lacks an enzyme known as L-glucono-gamma lactone oxidase. It is the reason why you should obtain vitamin C from vegetables and fruits, such as papaya, broccoli, and berries. To stay in good health, regular consumption of foods rich in vitamin C is crucial although its absorption is somehow limited.

Thus, you can’t reap all the health benefits of vitamin C through eating foods rich in it.  Nevertheless, topical application with a DIY vitamin C serum can bring a lot of health benefits to your skin, and you can make it a natural skincare routine.

What are the Health Benefits of Vitamin C Serum?

Curbs Changes from Photoaging

Thanks to its strong antioxidants, vitamin C serum can help in prevention and treatment of effects emanating from photoaging. This has been proven in a study involving patients aged between 36 and 72 years who suffered photodamaged facial skin. According to the research, about 67-74 percent of the participants showed an improvement in their skin following topical application of ascorbic acid.

Diminishes Hyper pigmentation

Generally, hyper pigmentation is harmless although it can trigger the appearance of unsightly dark spots on your skin, particularly on the hands and face. This usually occurs due to excessive production of melanin. Too much exposure to sunlight can trigger hyper pigmentation. The good news is that vitamin C acts as an antioxidant which brightens the skin, credit to its tyrosinase inhibitors. These enzymes prevent excessive production of melanin.

Enhances Collagen Production

By teaming up with other essential enzymes, vitamin C vitamin C enhances the effectiveness of collagen molecules. This helps to support the connective tissues and healing of wounds and blemishes on the skin.

In addition, vitamin C enhances the collagen “gene expression” and regulates collagen production. Impaired synthesis of collagen can trigger scurvy, although the condition is uncommon.

DIY Vitamin C Serum

You can prepare a vitamin C serum from the comfort of your home using the following recipes:

• Vitamin C Powder

Vitamin C not only helps to lighten your skin but also offers a youthful appearance. It is a great way to fade age spots and enhance the elasticity of your skin.

• Aloe Vera

For ages, Aloe Vera is renowned for its astounding health benefits to the skin. In deed, the ancient Egyptians referred it as “plant immortality.” Currently, it is used to treat a number of skin conditions, such as wounds, eczema, burns, and psoriasis.

• Vitamin E Oil

This acts as a strong antioxidant which provides the skin with a host of health benefits. Its performance is enhanced when combined with vitamin C. According to the National Institute of Health Office and Dietary Supplement, vitamin E oil helps to neutralize free radicals. These free radicals can trigger damage to the skin cells and can also put you at an increased risk of cardiovascular disease or cancer.

• Frankincense Essential Oil

It happens to rank among the top when it comes to essential oils with ageless properties. It diminishes wrinkles, fights acne, and tightens the skin. This is crucial if you have saggy spots especially in your jaw line or under the eyes.

How To Use Vitamin C Serum

Simply blend the above ingredients with filtered water to form a paste. Topically apply it to your face and let it stay overnight for the best outcome. Making it a regular skincare routine will definitely yield the expected results in less than two weeks.

The Bottom Line

If you are in pursuit of a youthful skin, the homemade DIY vitamin C serum should be incorporated in your skincare routine. You no longer have to dwell on thousands of products in the market that promise miracles for your skin but end up worsening the condition. Unless you have a demanding condition, skin issues such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, and others should become a thing of the past if you regularly use vitamin C serum.

The Growing Trend of Botox among the Millennials

The Growing Trend of Botox among the Millennials

The drug botulinum toxin commonly known as Botox is used to treat several disorders such as eye disorders, uncontrolled winking, muscle spasms, movement disorders and to reduce the cosmetic appearance of wrinkles. Its use was prevalent among the old people. However, the action is increasing among the millennials. There has been a 41% growth in treatment for millennials between the years 2011 and 2015 and about 10% by 2016 with 453,281 patients being men. About 15% of the patients were between 19- 34 years as reported by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

During an interview, Sofia Lyford-Pike, facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Minnesota Medical School stated that patients do not want their natural lines. Patients always point at them created for instance from raising eyebrows. Lyford-Pike said that the increasing trend of this treatment among millennials is facilitated by the increased accessibility and acceptability by society.

How It Works

The drug contains protein produced by a neurotoxin bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. It relaxes the various muscles that cause facial wrinkles. The injections are simple, rapid and with minimal measures delivering fast visible results. Results can be seen three days after injection. The muscles do not contract therefore creating a young look that can last between six to eight months varying from patient to patient. The treatment is done two to three times a year to improve efficiency.

The drug is injected in small doses. High concentrations are poisonous to humans. For the muscle to contract, nerves release acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter at the synapse where nerve endings and muscle cells meet. Acetylcholine attaches to muscle cell receptors leading to contraction. The drug blocks the release of acetylcholine-blocking impulses from the nerves controlling muscle movement. It prevents muscle contraction. Therefore, no wrinkles can be formed causing the skin to appear rejuvenated.

The Procedure

The treatment is carried out using a simple method. The powder is diluted in a saline usually sodium chloride and directly injected into the neuromuscular tissue. To reduce discomfort, preserved saline and cold packs are used rather than a local anesthetic cream. The patient is advised to move the muscles of the treated areas a few hours after treatment to increase the action.

The Results

The process takes about 24-72 hours to be complete which is directly proportional to the time taken for results to be visible. However, in some incidences, it takes five days for the results to show. It should not be used on pregnant mothers, myasthenia gravis patients or on individuals who are highly susceptible to allergic reactions.

Treated Areas

The most common parts of the face that can be taken care of by the drug are the frown lines between eyebrows, laugh lines, eyebrow lift and forehead lines. Botox also treats other areas such as neck bands, nose bunny lines, reduce excessive sweating, calf contouring, and jawline contouring among others. Prices of injection usually vary depending on the area being taken care of, the strength of the muscle having men paying more than women and depending on the hospital.

However, some complications can be encountered such as mild swelling, redness, drooping eyelids, and drooping forehead can occur, malaise, nausea, dry mouth, rashes, and headache among others. Despite this treatment being an easy procedure, diet and exercise play a significant role in skincare. The millennial drug trend is not welcomed entirely in society, but there is a high chance of individuals focusing on their skin at a younger age.

About a third of people with psoriasis develop an inflammatory type of arthritis referred to as psoriatic arthritis. This is an autoimmune condition which occurs when the body’s immune system erroneously attacks healthy tissues in muscles and joints.

What Is Psoriatic Arthritis and How To Treat It Naturally

Symptoms of Psoriatic Arthritis

1. Stiffness in joints and muscles
2. Joint pain
3. Swelling in toes and fingers
4. Reduced range of motion

Natural Treatment for Psoriatic Arthritis

Though it is a chronic condition, psoriatic arthritis symptoms can be alleviated through natural treatment. The best natural treatment options include:

1. Regular Exercise

You may not feel like exercising when experiencing the uncomfortable symptoms of the condition. However, exercise is very vital for your health. It improves flexibility and strengthens the muscles. Through exercise, you can maintain a healthy weight and put less strain on your muscles and joints. Consider lightweight exercises if hurts. Try walking, stretching, or some range of motion workouts. Let your doctor or physical trainer guide you on how to incorporate regular exercise into your daily routine.

2. Diet and Weight Control

Do you know there are certain foods that trigger the inflammatory response? In reference to a report by the Journal of Vitamin and Nutrition Research, plant-based foods can regulate the inflammatory response. Diets rich in whole wheat, fruits, and vegetables can reduce inflammation.  In addition, a healthy diet can keep the extra pounds at bay. Weight gain can increase stress to your joints and hinder your ability to move.

3. Omega-3 Fatty Acids

When you ingest omega-3 fatty acids in your body, they are converted into anti-inflammatory compounds. Studies involving patients with psoriatic arthritis and other inflammatory diseases found that fish oils can decrease inflammation and tautness in joints. You can get healthy fish oils from cod, salmon, tuna, and mackerel. Arthritis Foundation recommends pregnant women to avoid king mackerel due to harmful mercury levels. You can get fish oils in form of dietary supplement. However, you should contact your doctor before starting any supplement regimen.

4. Turmeric

There are patients who report improvement of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis symptoms after incorporating turmeric to their diet. There are many studies underway to review the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric. This is in reference to the National Psoriasis Foundation. Turmeric can be added to almost every type of meal. You can also get it as a dietary supplement. Seek dosage instructions into your health care provider.

5. Joint Care Practices

Some of the joint care practices you can try are soothing warm bath or use the heat pad to relax stiff joints and muscles. To relieve pain in joints and muscles, use ice packs or soak in cold water. Use your entire hand rather than exerting pressure on some fingers when lifting or pushing an object.

6. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep deprivation can worsen your psoriatic arthritis symptoms. Ensure you are getting enough sleep ever night to prevent drowsiness and exhaustion the following day. Adopt a sleep schedule where you can go to bed at night and wake up the same time every morning. Avoid caffeinated beverages near the evening hours if you have a problem with falling asleep.

Conclusion

If left untreated, psoriatic arthritis can interfere with your daily chores and affect your productivity. The good news is that you there are natural ways through which you can manage its symptoms. Making healthy lifestyle choices, eating a healthy diet, and exercising regularly can help to manage the condition. Use of natural supplements with your doctor’s consent is an alternative if you can’t get some essential nutrients from regular meals. If natural approaches proof futile, you can consult your doctor for medications like NSAIDs.

7 Bad Things That Happen to Your Skin When You Don’t Moisturize Your Face

7 Bad Things That Happen to Your Skin When You Don’t Moisturize Your Face

7 Bad Things That Happen to Your Skin When You Don’t Moisturize Your Face

Your skin is the largest part of your body. It acts as the first line of defense against pathogens, radiation, weather and countless other potential hazards. The problem is that this defense takes a gigantic toll upon your skin. It needs help to recover from the damage and the strain that it regularly undergoes while keeping you safe.Let’s examine seven things that could happen to your skin if you forget to moisturize regularly.

7 Unfortunate Symptoms You Can Avoid By Moisturizing Your Skin

1. You Could Develop Acne

When your skin becomes dry, it becomes easier for bacteria to invade your skin while oil builds up within your pores. This makes it significantly easier for you to acquire acne.

It can even make present outbreaks of acne even worse. You could develop scars that persist even after you eliminate acne from your skin.

2. Your Skin Can Flake

While moisturized skin is incredibly durable, dry skin that lacks the right moisture content tends to peel. Something as gentle as a breeze or as minute as scratching your face could result in millions of skin particles flying away.

This leaves your body more vulnerable to the things your skin should protect you against.

3. Your Appearance Might Look Duller

The reason healthy skin tends to look shiny revolves around the way it retains moisture. The oils in the middle layer of your skin slowly moisturize the outer layer of your skin.

When this fails to happen, your skin looks dull and dry. Moisturizing ensures your skin stays beautiful.

4. Your Wrinkles Will Look More Noticeable

Wrinkles start in the deepest layers of your skin where collagen collects. As your skin dries out, these minor imperfections become significantly more noticeable, especially where muscles might crease your skin.

If you took two faces, one dry and one moisturized, the dry one would have more noticeable wrinkles, lines, and creases.

5. Your Wrinkles Might Get Worse

Wrinkles form when collagen becomes displaced beneath the skin. One of the mechanisms that keep collagen from dispersing is the weak magnetic attraction water exhibits.
Moisturizing your skin can slow developing wrinkles.

6. Your Makeup Will Show More Lines

Makeup, such as the concealer you use around your eyes, loves to cling to dry skin. When you have small lines, makeup will tend to stick inside the lines to make them more apparent.

Before you apply foundation to your face, moisturize your skin. This will make your makeup look significantly better.

7. Your Skin Will Itch

When your skin becomes dry, you tend to become irritated by it. You desire nothing more than to scratch at that itch.

The problem is that this can be incredibly damaging to your skin. Scratching can cause wounds, microscopic cuts and other problems that leave your skin exposed to more dangers.

Moisturizing your skin on a regular basis promotes happy, healthy, supple skin. It increases the overall health of your skin while reducing irritations and the presence of unwanted features like wrinkles.

This Mother Discovered A Diet That Healed Her Kids Severe Eczema

This Mother Discovered A Diet That Healed Her Kids Severe Eczema

Eczema is a skin condition that can affect anyone. Severe eczema can occur anywhere on the body, but most often is seen on the face, arms, back of the knees, and neck. While most people outgrow eczema as they get older, eczema can be a lifelong condition. There are many treatments for eczema. One of them is the raw food diet.

This Mother Discovered A Diet That Healed Her Kids Severe Eczema

A Family from Poland has a child who suffered from eczema. The mother grew tired of her daughter having to suffer from dry, itchy skin and decided to give the raw food diet a try. As well might imagine, changing your family’s diet could be a daunting task, but it was successful for this family! Not only did the daughter’s eczema clear up, they experienced many other health benefits. Clear skin, increased energy, and weight loss were a few benefits the entire family experienced.

As the mother has explained, they start most mornings with a green smoothie. Typically smoothies made out of pineapples or bananas with plenty of greens, chia, and flax seeds. For lunch, they usually have a bowl of fruit. And, as a rule, for dinner we have a green salad.

While you might think you would feel hungry and deprived of a raw food diet, this family showed us quite the opposite. Having a great variety of fruits, vegetables, and nuts helps them feel like there was an abundance of choices for their meals, and they do not miss cooked foods anymore. This family tries to keep only one fruit per meal, with the exception of smoothies. Salads and nuts round out the menus.

The raw food diet can be something that is difficult to adjust to, particularly if you are eating a lot of processed foods before you begin this new lifestyle change. You might experience symptoms such as headaches, cravings, and bloating as you start this diet, but these symptoms will go away quickly. Eventually, you will no longer crave these foods and you will see your energy level increase and your weight decrease. Notably, your skin will clear up, which is a great benefit for people who suffer from eczema.

In addition to eating the fruits and vegetables in natural form, there are ways to make it more interesting for people on the raw food diet. Making smoothies, soups, nut milk, and desserts are all possible on the raw food diet. To make this diet successful, it might help to rid the house of all processed junk food to help eliminate temptations.

While the raw food diet has many benefits, particular for people with eczema, it is not without its disadvantages. It can be difficult for a person to get all the vitamins and minerals their body needs to function properly, such as vitamin D and iron. A person on a raw food diet might need to consider taking supplements to ensure they are getting these extra nutrients.

In my opinion, the raw food diet has many benefits and can be a great natural remedy for eczema. It can be difficult to change the eating habits of children and other family members, so this diet might be best introduced when children are young. Making sure all adult family members are on board with this lifestyle change is also essential.

7 Types of Rashes You Should Never Ignore These Are The Warning Signs

What do bed bugs, tick bites and mosquito bites all have in common? For the most part, they all leave some types of rashes of some kind that shouldn’t be ignored.

With the latest outbreak of Lyme disease and other forms of diseases, it is vitally important for people, and parents especially, to pay close attention to what may seem like a slow-starting rash that eventually turns into a full-blown life-threatening situation and possible fatality.  As reported by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) there are now more than 14 different diseases alone that are transmitted to humans by infected ticks.

However, our article below deals with the seven most common rashes that are easily observable yet shouldn’t be ignored. If they are non-infectious, the chances are good that they can be treated with natural remedies or over-the-counter medications.

Ringworm

Although not in itself a worm, it actually is a fungus living off dead skin, hair and tissue surrounding the nails. Starting off red and scaly, it then turns into a red, itchy ring with raised, blistery or scaly borders. Ringworm is generally treated with antifungal creams.

Fifth Disease

Characterized by a flushed, bright, red face and flu-like symptoms, this generally mild contagious disease passes within a couple of weeks. Typically spread by coughing and sneezing, it’s normally treated with bed rest, fluids and pain relievers.

Chicken Pox

Thankfully, not as common today because of Chicken Pox vaccinations, this is nevertheless one serious disease. Advancing in stages, this disease first blisters, bursts, dries and finally crusts over the body leaving an itchy rash with blisters over the body.

Impetigo

This bacteria-caused disease is known for its red sores or blisters. Breaking open and oozing, impetigo develops into a yellow-brown crust. Showing up anywhere over the body, marks are more predominant around the mouth and nose area. Usually spread through direct skin contact or sharing things like towels, toys or sports gear, impetigo requires the use of antibiotic ointment.

Heat Rash

Generally endured by most of us at some time or other, this rash develops generally from blocked sweat ducts. Typically, heat rashes appear first as tiny red or pink pimples on the head, neck and shoulder areas. Removing excess of clothing and applying cold compresses to the affected rash area is the indicated treatment here.

Contact Dermatitis

Usually developing after contact with plants or certain foods, detergents or soaps, this rash starts within 48 hours after first skin contact. Symptoms are a mild redness or a rash of small red bumps. Usually, this form of rash goes away after two weeks and is treated with 1 percent hydro-cortisone or another anti-inflammatory cream.

Shingles

Caused by the reactivation of a dormant childhood Chicken Pox virus, shingles alternate between being painful and itchy. Many times, nerve symptoms of pain, itching, burning or tingling appear before the actual rash manifests. Forming an unsightly rash, its blisters turn into a reddish scab.

Usually, it may form around the torso area of the body, but it has been known to respect no area of the body. This is one rebellious skin rash to treat, usually by vaccines and medication; however, some people get it in a mild enough form to not even warrant medication.

Not wanting to appear overly concerned or a hypochondriac, what skin rash, if any, have you observed recently that may need attention by a physician?

How to Treat Age Spots Without Using Any Chemicals

How to Treat Age Spots Without Using Any Chemicals

Age spots usually appear on the back of your hands but can also show up on your arms and face. You can lighten and even treat age spots using natural care products, but these remedies require patience.

It’s possible to conceal spots with makeup, there are also costly medical procedures like laser removal, that give more lasting results. Home remedies are still worth a try. Start by testing them out on less noticeable places, like your hands, before using them on your face.

Apply pure lemon juice on age spots twice a day. Or, try buttermilk for a similar effect.
An easy to make and easy to use the paste to lighten age spots can be made by mixing 1/3 ounce (10 mL or 2 teaspoons) each of powdered ginger and rose petals with about 3 ounces (90 mL) of a powdered cleaver. Stir 2 teaspoons of the mixture into a small amount of warm water to make a spreadable paste. Apply to the spots, cover with a cloth, and leave for about 30 minutes before thoroughly rinsing your skin clear.

Make a natural bleaching agent by mixing together 1 teaspoon each of honey and plain yogurt. Spread the mix on your age spots once a day, and leave on for 30 minutes before rinsing well.
Other simple solutions include rubbing age spots several times a day with a piece of papaya or using gels containing aloe vera. They can be helpful because they contain substances that stimulate the growth of healthy cells.
Another effective natural treatment is the Lemon –Based Bleaching Agent.

All you need is:

  • 1 egg white
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon vitamin E oil

Beat ingredients together and spread on age spots. Let it work for 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. This daily regimen, when repeated over the course of a few weeks, may help remove age spots altogether.
