Tomato fights against skin cancer

A new study published in British Journal of Dermatology suggests a very strong role that tomato may play on fighting against skin cancer. In this paper researchers showed that eating tomato regularly, as little as 1.5 tablespoon of tomato paste per day, may reduce the risk of skin cancer by 33 percent. The photoprotective effects of tomato paste is because of its excellent amount of the carotenoid lycopene. Lycopene is found in red fruits and vegetables and is responsible of the red color in these fruits.
Scientists believe that when these micronutrients are ingested, they are distributed into light-exposed tissues of the skin and eye and consequently provide protection against UVs and skin cancer.

Tomato has many other amazing health benefits including:
Fighting against prostate cancer.
Lowering the levels of cholesterol in blood.
Excellent antioxidant and anti-aging properties.

Dear 16-year-old Me

Dear 16-year-old Me

If you’re not among those 5.7 million people who watched this video in the past 365 days, please do it right now. Skin cancer is everywhere and it’s obviously bad. If you want to save a life, you need to educate yourself and others about skin cancer and show them how to detect it.

May is the skin cancer month! So here are some facts about skin cancer:
– Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer.
– Melanoma accounts for only 4 percent of all skin cancers in the USA, but is responsible for over 75 percent of skin cancer deaths.
– Every 8 min, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with melanoma.
– When detected early, melanoma is highly curable.

So if you do a self-exam and care about the dots on your skin or the skin of your family and friends, you can easily diagnose any bad lesions; and remember that tanning is not the best activity to do in the summer.

Skinny jeans may cause rash on your legs

Skinny jeans may cause rash on your legs

Hot Weather Alert:

If your legs become red, irritated or bumpy, the reason may be your skinny jeans. These jeans may look hot, but they could be causing red, itchy bumps or pimples.

When you move in your jeans, the jeans fabric has friction with our skin. This friction causes irritation in the tighter parts. In hot weather or when we have physical activity, we sweat more that worsens the problem and may cause folliculitis or other rash, bumps and pimples on your skin.

When you have this problem, don’t wear those jeans for couple of days. You can also use warm water compress on top of the folliculitis few times a day for few days. In addition, if you apply over the counter skin antibiotics, it resolves the issue faster. Also it’s better to apply moisturizer on your skin before wearing your jeans.
If the problem persists after couple of days, you may want to see your doctor.

Want smooth skin treatment? Coffee ground scrub can fight cellulite

Want smooth skin treatment? Coffee ground scrub can fight cellulite

This commentary is from NewJerseyNewsroom.com
BY VICKY DeROSA

As many of you are aware I am fascinated by anything having to do with health and wellness. I research absolutely everything having to do with the body inside and out.

Many years ago I noticed that there were very expensive creams on the market to fight against cellulite. Many of these creams contain caffeine. I began to research anything and everything having to do with caffeine as it relates to the skin.

Consequently, I found out that caffeine increases blood flow thereby helping to reduce the effects of fat cells underneath the skin. Several of you wrote in and asked if coffee grounds were my number one solution to cellulite. You are correct of course but my technique is original and has a twist. Years ago I created a technique and shared it with people who were suffering from cellulite. It helped to make their skin smooth, soft and certainly reduced their cellulite. If you have cellulite I suggest you try it. Actually, if you don’t have cellulite I suggest you also try it, you will be amazed at the results.

Coffee Ground Scrub

Ingredients:

• Day old coffee grounds
• Extra virgin olive oil
• Kosher salt
• Bath mitt (sponge, but looks like a glove)
• Directions

1. In a large bowl combine 1 cup coffee grounds with olive oil and salt. Use enough oil to create a thick paste and sprinkle in some kosher salt. Depending on whether or not you like a hard or soft exfoliant will depend on how much kosher salt you sprinkle in. I suggest a tablespoon. Some people prefer more so as to create a harder scrub.

2. 35 minutes before taking a shower, put your hand with the bath mit into the bowl and grab some of the paste. Rub the paste onto your legs and hips (actually you can rub the mixture anywhere you like, you will see fantastic results after just a week of using this technique).

3. Wrap yourself in your bathrobe and keep the paste on for 30 minutes.

4. Rinse off in a warm shower. I would like to point out here that for all of you that like to take two or three showers per day, I strongly suggest you cool your water temperature. Showering with very warm water will dry out your skin. So if you take numerous showers throughout the day try to make them as cool as possible.

I strongly recommend you try this paste. I have recommended it to many people over the years and they always give me rave reviews. Remember it is great to exfoliate your body anyway, why not use something natural. This is one of the best ways that I know to fight cellulite, and might I add, the cheapest. So what do you have to lose my friend?

Facts about cosmetics

Facts about cosmetics

If you go through this infographic and check out some facts, you’d be surprised by the amount of closed eyes in the regulatory system: Even in Europe the number of banned cosmetic chemicals is 1222 times more than the US. More surprisingly, although cosmetic chemicals are closely related to health, they’re not under supervision from FDA.
So I think sharing this infographic is a must. We have to spread this message specially to mothers of young girls who use cosmetics. The cosmetic industry is growing very fast among young girls between the ages of 7-14 and this materials are hazardous, specially for that age.

6 Major Enemies of Your Skin

If you like to have a beautiful skin, you should know what are the friends of your skin and what are the enemies of your skin. The major enemies of your skin health are as following:

1- Stress: Stress is one of the major causes of premature aging in your skin.

2- Dehydration: Skin needs plenty of water. So dehydration causes wrinkles and lines in your skin. It’s better to drink couple of waters daily.

3- Fatty Foods: For having a healthier skin try to consume more and more veggies and fruits.

4- Pollution: Many chemicals cause harmful chain reactions in the skin. Having foods that contain loads of antioxidants can deplete these harmful reactions.

5- Smoking: There are more than 4000 toxins in the smoke of cigarettes. So exposure to this smoke, first hand or second hand, causes premature aging of your skin.

6- Sun exposure: Not only sun’s UV causes premature aging of skin, but also it may cause some forms of skin cancer.
