See How You Can Cleanse Your Body Without Going On a Detox Diet

See How You Can Cleanse Your Body Without Going On a Detox Diet

See How You Can Cleanse Your Body Without Going On a Detox Diet

Most people have gotten the message that crash diets are unhealthy. They lead to weight rebound, don’t have long-term results, and often leave people feeling so unhappy with themselves that they give up on the “diet” process altogether. Instead, however, many people have swung toward quick-fix “detox” programs. Instead of admitting that they’re trying to lose a lot of weight fast, they’ve decided that they want to remove the toxins from their bodies, drop some water weight, and increase their energy and enthusiasm for new healthy eating habits. Not only that, most detoxes promise relief from unhealthy cravings, making it easier to pass on dessert or ignore those fatty, over-salted foods that you normally love.

There’s just one problem: everyone has a different idea of how you should detox, and many of them deprive you of the nutrients that your body needs in order to function at its optimal level. Many so-called cleanses leave you cranky, lethargic, and feeling more deprived than you ever did on a diet. Instead of trying out an all-juice cleanse or eating nothing but carrot sticks for a week, try these seven naturally detoxifying habits that will leave your body looking and feeling better than ever.

1. Drink water. Lots of water. Eight glasses of water a day, for a grand total of a minimum of sixty-four ounces, is a great starting point, but many experts suggest that you should drink even more than that. A good rule of thumb? Divide your body weight in half, then drink that amount in ounces of water each day. If you’re looking to add detoxifying bonus points, add lemon to your first glass of water in the morning. It will help flush the impurities out of your body.

2. Exercise regularly. Sweating out the toxins in your body isn’t just a metaphor. Rather, it’s an important addition to any detox routine. Exercise gets your blood flowing faster, your lungs working harder, and keeps your body functioning at its best.

3. Try out a detoxifying tea. Many of them are designed with your body’s function in mind and will help bring your digestion and other systems in line, keeping them moving at optimal level and reducing the things that you don’t want in your body.

Here’s an example of Detox Tea adopted from marilynmckenna.com

Ingredients:

1/2 cup raw honey
4 tsp crushed ginger
2 tsp ground turmeric or crushed turmeric
1 dash cayenne pepper
2 pinches black pepper
Organic lemon juice and lemon zest

Directions:

Mix raw honey, crushed ginger, turmeric, cayenne pepper and black pepper in a small jar; stir the mixture until ingredients are well combined and refrigerate it. Each morning, add the juice and zest of half a lemon into a mug, then add one teaspoon of the refrigerated mixture to the mug. Steep mixture with couple of cups of boiling water and stir it until well combined.

4. Give up the coffee. Instead, try starting off your morning with a dose of green tea to give you the jolt of energy that you need to start your day without many of the negative effects associated with coffee.

5. Get plenty of sleep. A healthy sleep schedule is one of the things that your body needs most. Sometimes, you convince yourself that because you can function six hours of sleep a night, you should make that your regular habit. Unfortunately, over time, this causes your body to become sluggish, no longer functioning as well as you’d like. If you have to set an alarm and you wake up groggy every morning, you probably aren’t getting enough sleep.

6. Cut the sugar. Sugar is an addictive substance. The more of it you eat, the more of it you want. One of the most important parts of detoxifying your body and leading a healthier lifestyle is removing the sugar from your diet. Once you do, you’ll be surprised by how much easier it is to follow a healthy diet-and by the fact that many of your favorite treats are now too sweet.

7. Make massage a regular part of your routine. Toxins build up in the body over time, and a good massage can help flush them out, leaving you feeling refreshed, cleansed, and ready to take on the world.

Detoxifying your body and learning to live a more healthy, natural lifestyle doesn’t happen overnight. Like anything else, it’s best to develop these habits over time in order to see long-term results that come from lifestyle changes, not a sudden shift in your habits for fast results. By practicing detoxification habits on a regular basis, you’ll have a healthy body overall. It’s not about your weight or even how you look; it’s about how much better you’ll feel as a result.

It’s Time For An Information Detox

It's Time For An Information Detox

October 30, 2014
What I’m about to say is going to sound ironic, since you’re reading this on your phone or computer and this is me talking: GET OFF THE INTERNET!!

Seriously! So many people are glued to their computers, iPhones, TVs ALL DAY LONG. They don’t even really know how to talk to each other anymore. Have you ever been in a conversation with someone and they say LOL or IDK? Really?? Actually laughing or saying ‘I don’t know’ doesn’t take more effort.

It's Time For An Information Detox

I’m probably a hypocrite for giving you this advice because I spend most of my day between my phone and my computer, doing work. Even Madeline knows that I spend a good chunk of my day on the ‘conkuter’. I am working, reaching out to clients, responding to emails and text messages, placing orders for my essential oil business. But I am not rotting my brain or my body on all the other crap.

I’m fired up about this because it seems like we Americans keep getting fatter and fatter, and lazier and lazier, and it scares me! Where are we going to be in 20 years if we’re all constantly glued to our technology? Like those people in the movie, Wall-e, who speak to the person next to them on a screen in front of them instead of turning their head, and can hardly walk when they get out of their chairs??!! We all need technology and information detox. Here’s what I want you to do:

Turn off the news

My husband makes fun of me for not knowing what’s going on, but the news is stupid. Do I REALLY need to know about the guy from 10 that just killed his whole family? Do I need to know about every car accident and murder that’s happened in the world? The news has become so sensationalized anyway, you never know if what they’re telling you is the truth. If something big is happening, I’ll hear about it. I’ll read it on Facebook or friends will tell me about it.

Turn off the TV

Yes, Madeline watches movies, but they’re on her iPad. There’s just so much crap on TV, stuff that I don’t want her to see, stuff that I really don’t want to see either, it’s hardly worth turning it on. Reality shows are like a sociology experiment gone wrong – do I REALLY CARE if some goofball ‘survives’ on a desert island? Please – SURVIVE???!!! In 30 days on that show, they’ve still eaten more than the average person in India has. Gimme a break. Is THAT what you want to spend your time on?? Watching someone pretend they’re acting ‘natural’ while actually being scripted and directed to have a temper tantrum? Shouldn’t you be out walking or playing catch with your kid in the front yard? The only time I watch TV is for a few specific shows that I like to watch, as I’m winding down for the night. Other than that, the TV is off.

Turn off the computer

Whether you’re in an office or working from home, it is so easy to spend the entire day sitting in front of a screen. Not only is it hard on your eyes, but your brain is also being constantly stimulated by the light. And if you’re following your Twitter or Facebook feed, you’re being over-stimulated by the constant influx of information. Whether you work for someone else or for yourself, force yourself to find a stopping point and then shut it off! Take a walk around the block, find a spin class to take, go read a book! Your Facebook feed will be there in the morning. I promise.

Turn off your phone

I admit I am one of those people that will leave my cell phone on the dinner table – and I will look at it while I’m eating with my family if I don’t turn it off. Every time I get out of a workout or a class, anything that I can’t have my phone with me, I have to check my phone. All day long, I am answering texts, emails, phone calls. I get nervous and can’t sleep if I go to bed without responding to people who have contacted me. Yes. I know. I’m obsessed. That is why I HAVE to turn it off. I forced to wait 30 minutes after I get up to check my phone – it gives me a little peace before my day really gets going. And when it’s time to put Madeline to bed, I turn it off for the night, to guarantee that she and the rest of my family have my undivided attention. Just… put the phone down and walk away from it! Cover it up with something if you really have to keep it out of sight to stay off it. Give it to your spouse! I bet they’ll help you forget where it is!!!

Take a wifi vacay

It is amazing how relaxed you get when you don’t have any gadgets constantly going off in your face. A girl on my marketing team recently had a weekend at a cabin in the mountains, where there was no wifi or cell signal. It took hours for her ears to stop ringing and her eyes to adjust to the natural light and she slept better than she had in months, without the constant bombardment of technology. But you don’t have to go to the mountains to get that peace. Just… shut everything off! Sure, your friends will miss you if you’re not there for every single post – won’t it be fun to catch up when the vacation is over?

Your body and mind deserve to unplug from the steady flow of information thanks to technology. Your family and friends deserve your undivided attention.

I’ve just given you some suggestions for how to do an information detox. How do you unplug? Share it here or on Facebook.

10 Signs Your Body Is Screaming at You for a Detox

10 Signs Your Body Is Screaming at You for a Detox

10 Signs Your Body Is Screaming at You for a Detox

[nextpage title=”…”]

The way things are right now it’s either autumn, closing in on winter, or spring nearly summer, and practically everyone is feeling sluggish and doughy. With the winter holidays closing in promising an abundance of carbs and sugar, quite a few people are going to need to detox even before this chemical onslaught begins.

10 Signs Your Body Is Screaming at You for a Detox 2

How can you tell if your body may be suffering from toxicity? Here’s a few symptoms:

• Chronic constipation/indigestion, heartburn, bloating
• Excess weight – including water weight
• Poor stress management
• Frequent fatigue
• Being sick – colds and the flu – more often than your peers
• Headaches and joint pain
• Ennui/apathy
• Sleeping more or less than usual
• Depression
• Reduced libido and/or reduced satisfaction in bed
• Mood swings

Now what? Well, experts say that the autumnal cleanse should be focused on the lungs and large intestine. Both alternative and conventional medicine say that these organs are linked to breathing problems and skin problems like eczema, rashes, asthma, and dry skin; all of which plague us during the winter months. We’re trapped indoors with forced heat much of the time, while dry cold weather beats us down when we actually venture outdoors.

If your allergies are really bad, try using local bee pollen to reduce the symptoms. Start with a small amount, only a granule or two, in the morning before breakfast and gradually increase to around half a teaspoon twice a day. This will naturally desensitize your body to the local flora.

[/nextpage] [nextpage title=”…”]

Don’t listen to your sugary, carb-filled cravings — drop refined sugar and corn syrup as quickly as you can. Don’t do a juice cleanse, either. That’s not going to help you and may make you even more sensitive to sugar. Instead, put three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar into some water, this will eliminate your craving and increase your mineral intake as well as lowering your glucose, which will lead to less intense cravings, less often.

Some detox diets that are popular also happen to be easy and often don’t require major changes to one’s diet already in place. One such cleanse is called the Lemonade Diet which involves organic maple syrup, fresh squeezed organic lemon juice, spring water, and, interestingly, cayenne pepper. There’s also the Raw Food Diet, which means one can only eat fresh (and raw, obviously) vegetables, nuts, seeds, fruit, and homemade juice. The Bible Diet, also called Hallelujah Diet, is essentially a vegan version of the Raw Food Diet.

Most detox diets can be done at home, and it’s best to start slowly. A simple diet will remove foods that trigger health problems and avoid commercially and/or chemically processed foods such as canned soups and ready-to-eat meals and sticking to natural, whole foods. One should also consume plenty of water to help flush toxins from the liver and kidneys. No caffeine, alcohol or smoking on any of these diets – instead of coffee, try an herbal tea. Be as balanced as possible, eat like you “should” eat.

After the detox, don’t go immediately back to the lifestyle you had before you did the cleanse. Natural foods should still be a large part of your diet, post-detox, and meditation/yoga/deep breathing exercises will help keep your stress levels in check so you’re less likely to go running for comfort food when things get rough. The most common suggestion is a bit of homemade hydrotherapy, switch up your bathing routine by alternating cold and hot showers three times a week.

How Does Lady Part Detox Work?

The most common way of detoxing the lady part is to give it a steam bath. This is very common in other countries. Women go to special spas where they sit on a chair with a hole in the middle of the seat. Steaming, herb infused water is placed below this chair. This can be replicated at home by simply sitting or kneeling over a bowl of steaming, herbed water or tea. Mugwort tea is a popular source of steam for lady part cleansing, although some prefer other cleansing herbs such as red raspberry leaf or dong quai.

How to Tell If You Need a Lady part Detox

There are several signs that your lady part needs detoxified. First, many women in need of detox begin to get more yeast or bacterial infections. Second, heightened irritation can be a sign of toxicity. One-quarter of all American women suffer from symptoms of toxic exposure in the female reproductive organs so this is nothing to be ashamed of.

Women who get lady part detox say it alleviates or cures the following symptoms:

• Burning
• Redness
• Itchiness
• Discomfort

Reducing Toxic Influences on a Daily Basis

In addition to exposing oneself to detoxifying steam, it’s important for long term lady part health to limit exposure to toxins by:

• Using all natural soaps to wash
• Avoiding feminine hygiene sprays
• Washing undergarments in gentle detergents.

These measures can help to reduce your need for lady part detox between treatments. It’s important for all body parts to be as pure and healthy as possible. Don’t neglect this very important part of detoxifying your body.

Feeling Tired Lately? It Might Be Time For A Kidney Detox Juice

Feeling Tired Lately? It Might Be Time For A Kidney Detox Juice

Feeling Tired Lately? It Might Be Time For A Kidney Detox Juice

Unless a person is on dialysis, the majority of people don’t wake up thinking about the health of their kidneys. The kidneys are extremely important because they filter and cleanse the blood.

It Might Be Time For A Kidney Detox Juice

According to the National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Information Clearinghouse, the kidneys “filter about 120 to 150 quarts of blood to produce about 1 to 2 quarts of urine, composed of wastes and extra fluid.” This is a process they do on their own, but if they are not functioning at 100%, the effects spill into other parts of the body. Symptoms such as acne, eczema, fatigue or even depression can rear their ugly heads. If you’ve been feeling tired, sluggish or really fatigued recently, this could be a result of kidney issues. Is this a concern that needs the attention of a doctor? To be safe, a doctor’s visit can’t hurt. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to remedy the feelings of fatigue. One of the easiest ways to remedy kidney functioning is by drinking kidney detox juices. There are plenty of different recipes, but detox juices commonly utilize fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs for maximum benefits. Here are a few different recipes to try and their benefits!

1. Recipe #1- Watermelon & Lime

  • Watermelon is really popular during the summer. Why? Watermelon is over 90% water and it serves as an excellent cool-down treat during hot weather. Because watermelon is over 90% water, it also doubles as a great way to flush the kidneys of any toxins.
  • Limes, known for their extremely tart taste, are very high in citric acid. Researchers at the University of Wisconsin’s Health Information Center found that citric acid is able to help people dealing with calcium kidney stones.
  • The more citric acid is in the system, the lower the chances are of kidney stones forming!
  • Blend two cups of watermelon along with the juice of one peeled lime. This mixture is a dynamic option to get the process of detoxification started.

2. Recipe #2- Carrots, Cucumbers and Parsley

  • If there are serious kidney issues or a person is on dialysis, the National Kidney Foundation recommends avoiding foods with a high potassium level.

  • Carrots are high in potassium, but are good for a tune-up or detox. If there aren’t any major symptoms of the disease, include carrots in the juicing process and mix them with cucumbers.

  • Carrots and cucumbers are great for preventing a large amount of uric acid build-up. When the body is completely rid of unnecessary toxins, it is able to function properly.

  • When dealing with kidney detoxification, it is unthinkable to mention parsley. Parsley is worth its weight in gold.

  • Parsley contains chlorophyll, antioxidants, vitamins and beneficial enzymes.

  • Parsley comes highly recommended by many health professionals because of its ability to dissolve kidney stones and clear up infections within the kidneys.

  • Along with three large carrots and one large cucumber, add one ounce of parsley to a juicer. The detox juice may be a little strong because of the parsley, but keep drinking! Your kidneys will thank you!

10 Natural Treatments for Kidney Stones and Prevention

10 Natural Treatments for Kidney Stones and Prevention

All-natural treatment and prevention of kidney stones

Kidneys help detox and filter toxins and impurities from the blood and urine when the kidneys are not able to process these toxins efficiently, a crystallization of unprocessed minerals build-up, also known as kidney stones, causing pain and possible blockage of urine flow.

There are different kinds of kidney stones, each of which contains various combinations of chemicals. The four most common types contain calcium, struvite, uric acid, or cystine.

Soothe the discomfort of kidney stones with the following natural remedies and suggestions that will speed up the body’s natural healing process.

1. Lemon juice + Olive oil + Raw apple cider vinegar

Mix 2 ounces organic olive oil with 2 ounces organic lemon juice, drink it straight, immediately follow with a 12-ounce glass of purified water, and wait for 30 minutes.

After that, squeeze the juice of ½ lemon into 12 ounces of purified water, add 1 tablespoon of organic raw apple cider vinegar and drink.

Repeat the recipe every hour until symptoms improve.

2. Uva Ursi

Uva Ursi will help you fight off the infection in kidneys and also reduce the pain and cleanse the urinary tract. Try 500mg three times a day.

3. Dandelion Root
Organic dandelion root is a powerful kidney cleanser. Try up to 500mg twice a day.

4. Kidney beans
Have you ever notice that a bean’s shape is similar to a human kidney? It may be indicative of its healing potential. Boil the bean pods in purified hot water for six hours, drink the liquid throughout the day to ease kidney stone pain.

5. Horsetail
Horsetail tea is an effective diuretic, therefore a great option as a natural remedy for kidney stones. Try up to 3-4 cups of horsetail tea daily.

6. Pomegranate juice
The seeds and the juice of pomegranates have sour and astringent properties, becoming another great natural remedy to ease kidney stones.

7. Magnesium
Magnesium improves the rate in the reduction of kidney stones.

8. Celery
Organic celery is a great diuretic and kidney tonic, regular consumption may prevent kidney stone formation.

9. Basil
Basil tea is a kidney conifer and can be taken daily for overall kidney health. Folk remedies with pure basil juice can help induce stone expulsion from the urinary tract.

Instead of looking for ways to cure it, unless you already suffer from it, you should try to prevent it, it’s often been said that the pain of passing a kidney stone is comparable to that of giving birth. Stones might pass in a few hours, but sometimes it takes days. It’s best to try to avoid kidney stones in the first place.
Dehydration is a key factor in kidney stone formation. Lack of fluids prevents mineral salts in urine from being dissolved, causing them to clump together as grit and slowly form kidney stones. To ensure your kidneys are well-irrigated and healthy, drink plenty of non-carbonated water, herbs and fruit teas, and diluted fruit juice.
If you have a tendency toward kidney problems avoid apple and grapefruit juices, which can increase the risk of kidney stone formation.

Milk, beer, wine, and coffee, contrary to popular belief, actually reduce the damage of kidney stones. Of course, do not overindulge in them, coffee and alcohol have other harmful side effects, as well as milk.
Salt, sugar, and meat can aggravate kidney stone formation. Moderation is key, as always.

In this video, Dr. Alejandro Junger, creator of the Clean detox program shares some very useful tips about detoxification diet and talks with Martha Stewart about foods to avoid and to include in a detox plan.

In the second part of the video, he shares two healthy drink recipes:

His detox plan bans foods such as: Dairy, Eggs, Processed sugar, Alcohol, Caffeine, Soda, Gluten, Beef and Pork, Creamed Vegetables, Soy and Peanuts, all foods he calls irritant to good digestion.

And the foods that he promotes to eat are: Green Leafy vegetables, Cold water fish (like Salmon and Tuna), Free range pasture Chicken, Fresh Berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries), Apple cider vinegar, Water with lemon, Herbal teas, Unsweetened coconut milk, Coconut Oil, Plant-based protein powder.

This plan is used as a diet program to promote weight loss, the weight loss is a result of the bacteria balance in the gut, by eliminating certain foods that feed bad bacteria in the intestines, which increases the amount of good bacteria, resulting in weight loss!!!

What sets this program aside from all the other detoxing programs out there is that it actually a food program that promotes weight loss. Most of the other plans involve consuming very little food as a way to rid the body of harmful toxins.
