See What Happens To Your Body When You Restrict Your Eating Time Period To 8 Hours

If you’ve been having trouble losing weight and getting back into shape, you’re probably at a point where you’re willing to try just about anything. All too often, however, “anything” amounts to another fad diet that is doomed to failure before you even begin. Intermittent fasting is different. For many individuals, intermittent fasting isn’t just about solving their weight loss problems. It’s an answer to a number of other health problems, as well.

What is Intermittent Fasting?

Intermittent fasting involves restricting your eating to a specific period of time during the day–usually a specific eight-hour period. This method allows your body time to truly grow hungry, removing the “feast” from its available resources so that it is forced to burn stored fat instead.

How Does it Work?

In today’s society, highly processed foods are the norm. Many people are able to eat as much as they want, whenever they want. That means that their bodies constantly have a new source of food to burn–usually food with a high sugar content. When a person is never hungry, their bodies never burn fat or other stored reserves, which means that extra calories are always packed on and never banished.

What are the Benefits of Intermittent Fasting?

Intermittent fasting has a number of benefits. First and foremost, it improves your insulin/leptin sensitivity, an issue that is of concern for a vast number of Americans today. Second, it helps your body to burn fat more efficiently and effectively. Finally, intermittent fasting can help increase mental clarity, making it easier to focus on necessary tasks and engage in creative thought.

What About Exercise?

Your mother probably tells you that if you’re going to be engaging in highly physical activity, you should make sure that you have plenty to eat first. If you’re talking about a highly physical job that requires you to engage your body to the utmost, this is probably true. On the other hand, entering into your exercise routine while fasting can actually help your body burn fat more effectively. If losing weight is your primary exercise goal, that means that working out before breakfast or after fasting for several hours could be the best way to meet your goals. On the other hand, if your goal is to build strength or speed–that is, to enhance your performance–you should probably continue to fuel your body prior to working out.

Can You Gain Muscle with Intermittent Fasting?

Gaining muscle with intermittent fasting requires a little more effort. The key piece of advice you should follow, however, is to make sure that you’re getting plenty of protein. Your body needs protein in order to effectively build muscle mass, and without it, your exercise efforts won’t accomplish as much as you’d like. Also, try to eat the bulk of your calories as soon as you can after your workout.

Is Intermittent Fasting for You?

Intermittent fasting isn’t for everyone. There are some people who need to eat more regularly in order to regulate blood sugar. Others have high-intensity jobs that require them to fuel their bodies at abnormal hours. On the other hand, if you’re struggling to lose weight no matter what you try and willing to commit to limiting the hours when you can eat, intermittent fasting might be the solution to all of your weight loss problems.
