Prednisone or cortisone

It is good to use in short term however prolonged use of this drug may lead to side effects such as high blood pressure, fluid retention, and muscle loss. This is a partial list of the side effects of this drug. If taken for a very long time, the side effects of this drug can become life threatening.

Methotrexate

Used to treat rheumatoid arthritis with prednisone. This can be a deadly combination when used long term, leading to liver and kidney toxicity, bone marrow depression, depression of immune system, and lung disease which can be fatal.

Coumadin or warfarin

Proscar

Used to treat prostate cancer. Women are told not to even handle this drug or have sex with the men who are on it as its exposure to semen could cause urogenital defects in male offspring.

Diabetes drugs

For people dependent on insulin its replacement is necessary for life. The amount of insulin needed can sometimes be lowered by following appropriate diet, regular exercise, and nutritional supplements. The oral drugs prescribed for insulin supplementation increase the likelihood of heart attack and blood vessel disease.

Arthritis drugs

Many physicians believe that the only way to treat arthritis is strong prescription drugs. Common arthritis drugs are Motrin, Ansaid, and Clinoril. These products help with pain but do not treat the underlying problem. Side effects of these drugs may include damage to kidney and liver, bleeding, gastrointestinal upset, and retention of water and sodium.

Cold and flu medications

Many people try to self-medicate colds or flu with aspirin, ibuprofen, and decongestants. Side effects include suppression of immune systems response to viruses, increase time of infection, and discomfort with breathing.
