Natural Home Remedies for Diarrhea

Whether the cause of your discomfort is yesterday’s lunch special or a nasty viral infection, diarrhea can be most unpleasant, but, it’s also terribly effective at expelling whatever it is that ails you. In the past, people tried to put a halt to diarrhea immediately, but now we generally allow it to run its course for a day or two, then deal with it using proven home remedies.
For the first 24 hours after this annoying illness hits, drink plenty of clear fluids in order to replace the liquids and minerals you have lost. After a day or two its necessary to put a stop to it and restore damaged intestinal flora with the following home remedies.

Boil a cup of bloodroot tea, you can also try bloodroot tincture or diarrhea pills, which you can find in a health food store, or a macrobiotic.

Dissolve 1 tsp. of powdered charcoal or healing earth in a glass of water and drink it.
Eat yogurt that contains “good bacteria” which chases the “bad bacteria” that caused your diarrhea in the first place, replacing them can help you feel better faster. Look for yogurts that contain live bacterial culture or probiotics, and eat plenty, you need many of these organisms to effectively colonize your intestine.

Eating 1-2 tsp. of dried blueberries is a time-honored Swedish cure for diarrhea. The berries act as an astringent, contracting tissue, reducing inflammation in your intestine, and ultimately slowing diarrhea.
Apply a little heat. Heat calms your intestine and makes you feel better. A hot water bottle or a spelt or cherry-pit bag should do the trick.
Put 2 handfuls of crushed pot marigold flowers boiled in water into a cloth bag and place it on your stomach while warm.
To calm your nerves, nervous diarrhea can be treated with aromatherapy massage. Mix 3-4 drops of chamomile, sandalwood, juniper, or lavender oil with 2 tsp. of cooking oil and massage your lower abdomen in a circle.
