Here are some natural ways to take care of your throat and tonsils while suffering from tonsillitis:

1. Lime
In cases of acute tonsillitis lime can be effective. It helps you keep your throat and tonsils calm. Squeeze a fresh lime into a glass of hot water and add 4 teaspoons honey along with 1/4 teaspoon salt. This drink should be sipped slowly to give relief to your throat.

2. Milk
Milk is great with tonsillitis. Boil milk and add a pinch of turmeric powder and pepper. Drink this 3 nights in a row when suffering from inflamed tonsils.

Gargling with fenugreek water can help severe tonsillitis. Add two tablespoons fenugreek seeds to 1 liter water and boil for half an hour. Let it cool then strain. 4. Chamomile tea
Chamomile tea can help reduce stress and anxiety caused by tonsillitis. Add 2 tablespoons honey and squeeze one lemon into chamomile tea. This remedy has been used for ages to treat tonsillitis. Keep drinking this tea at regular intervals for best results.

5. Garlic and ginger
Garlic and ginger with onion juice can do wonders when it comes to treating throat conditions. Have this drink and it will help reduce throat pain.

6. Warm beverages
Enjoy warm drinks like tea, coffee, broth, or warm water to reduce swelling and ease pain and discomfort. Avoid hot drinks as this can lead to more problems.

This is the best and most common remedy when it comes to tonsillitis. Add a pinch of salt to a glass of warm water and gargle at least 6-7 times a day. Salt will help eliminate the germs trapped in the lymph glands and warm water will help give relief to throat and reduce pain.

8. Diet
Having a proper diet is important. Avoid spices that can harm your throat. Eat foods rich in folic acid and vitamins A, B, C, D, and E. Foods that contain zinc, iron, and magnesium are also helpful for treating tonsillitis. Avoid alcohol, excess caffeine, and refined carbohydrates.

9. Humidify your environment
Sit in a steamy room or use a humidifier to keep your environment humid. This will help avoid the irritation caused by a dry environment. You can also take a steam bath by keeping a towel over your head and a pot of hot water for a few minutes. This will help drain your sinuses and give you relief in your throat.


a) Stop smoking while you have a throat infection.

b) Don’t use the toothbrush that you have used while your throat was infected as it can cause reoccurrence of infection.

c) Try to avoid crowds with swollen tonsils as it may spread to others.
