5 Important Reasons For You to Eat Breakfast
Edited By: Stephanie Dawson

Breakfast is the meal that breaks the fast that your body has every night when you sleep, that is why it is so important to have a good breakfast, especially a healthy one, packed with energy boosting vitamins and minerals. Also important in the morning, a glass of water with lemon will clean your entire body from the inside.

One great breakfast option is a big powerful green smoothie with at least 3 fruits and all the greens (celery, kale, cucumber, etc.) you want. This will keep you full till lunch and will help you jump-start your day packed with good energy.

Reason # 1 – Your brain needs fuel to function at its peak.

This fuel comes in the form of glucose derived from food and is needed to walk, talk, and perform all other activities. When you skip breakfast your brain is forced to work extra hard in breaking down stored carbohydrates, or to turn fats and proteins into usable forms of glucose. Eating breakfast has been proven to improve concentration, increase your problem solving capabilities, enhance overall mental performance and even boosts your memory and mood.

Reason # 2 – Boosts your metabolism

One of the worst things about skipping breakfast is that it lowers your metabolism. Your metabolism is your body’s ability to burn calories and is often referred to as your body’s furnace. Eating regularly helps to keep the fire burning, by skipping breakfast you are essentially letting that fire burn out. While this is a bad idea at any time of the day, it is particularly bad first thing in the morning as your body has been fasting all night and breakfast helps to kick start your metabolism and provides you with energy for the day ahead. Keeping your metabolism firing is essential for burning fat and calories when trying to lose weight.

Reason # 3 – Avoid fatigue

Your body will begin to conserve energy when you skip breakfast, having no new source of fuel since your last meal the night before. The result is that you’ll feel sluggish and even sleepier.

Reason # 4 – Increase your nutrient intake

Breakfast eaters have a better overall diet. People who eat breakfast generally have a lower fat intake, more fiber in their diet, and significantly higher intakes of almost all the vitamins and minerals, especially calcium, iron and magnesium.

Reason # 5 – Helps control blood sugar

When we skip breakfast our bodies slip into a state of insulin resistance for a short time. You don’t want your body to go into insulin resistance mode even temporarily. It’s insulin that allows glucose to travel into your cells to maintain proper functioning. When glucose doesn’t get into your cells, there’s no energy supply. On the other hand, when you eat breakfast, your glucose levels rise, insulin production is triggered, and glucose is able to reach your cells.
