Boring nuts? Toast 'em for omega-3s!

You know what gets a bad rap?

Nuts!

Listen my friends, nuts are an extraordinary way to get omega-3s.

Don’t be so fearful of the calories, just don’t overeat them. In fact, have you considered toasting your nuts? This is an amazing snack and so simple to do.

In a shallow baking pan place chopped almonds, chopped walnuts, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds (actually, you can use any nuts you like) place in a preheated oven at 425 degrees. That’s it; just roast them in a hot oven. Just keep checking, ovens will vary.

What you are looking for is a nice golden brown color. I sprinkle these toasty little treats on so many different meals. They just seem to make everything taste better. Great on oatmeal, salad, fruit, yogurt; actually anything you can think of.

I have been eager to remind you to toast your nuts, and since we were on the subject of omega 3s I thought it would be a great opportunity. Try it as soon as you can, keep some of them whole and carry them around with you; they really do make a healthy treat. Don’t worry about the calories; you should make them a part of your day.

Now let’s change the subject to eggs. I feel it important to share this expert opinion from one of our physicians. I must say it’s kind of crazy how often I hear people avoid the yolks.

There has never been a study that verifies a link between cardiovascular disease and egg consumption. Eggs are one of nature’s most complete, balanced foods. Of course, the best eggs are from chickens that have been raised as “free range” who eat pesticide free, anti-biotic and growth hormone free diets and whose omega-3 fats are

elevated.

The problem with eggs might just be the way you prepare them (fried is the least healthy). You might want to consider putting them in a blender raw as part of your healthy morning shake with some greens, almond milk, whey protein, etc.
