The New "Fast" Fast

I like alliteration, and simple things, so that’s what I decided to call it, for now anyway. Maybe we could call it the Easy Fast? Since it’s easy food we are eliminating, for 7 days, you can do this! Okay here is a list of foods to avoid:

instant food

No fast food
No “instant” potatoes
No “Minute” rice
No “meals in a box” such as mac and cheese, hamburger or chicken or tuna helper, etc.
No frozen entrees, even Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice
No pot pies, unless they are homemade
No chips, flavored crackers
No store bought cakes, cake mixes, cookies, donuts, pancake mixes, baking mixes, etc
No ice cream, except as listed below
No instant oatmeal
No canned soup

instant chili

If right now you want to quit and give up, please don’t, the goal is to go without all of our usual fixes and speed-up tricks. You will also be eating without preservatives and the chemical sh#$storm that is in all “just add water” foods. It’s for a week, you have lots of time to prepare. We lived for hundreds of years without microwaves and fast foods remember.

lasagna

Things you can eat:
Anything made from scratch
Homemade soups and stews
Ice cream you make, or Breyer’s Natural, Haagen Dazs 5 are good, if it has 20 ingredients when it should have 5, don’t eat it!
Real potatoes
Long cooking rice and grains
Long cooking oatmeal or grits
Quick breads made at home

homemade food

We will be posting recipes for soups, stews, casseroles, etc during this week and next week, plan ahead, take leftovers or salads to work, prep at home. I always have cut up vegetables in my fridge, like onions, peppers, mushrooms, celery, carrots, etc. Very easy to throw them into a stir fry, scrambled eggs, on top of chicken, or to snack on. Good luck!!
