Homemade Hummus

Hummus is one of the foods I didn’t like at all when I was younger, now I can’t get enough of it! This is a very basic recipe, so you can personalize it any way you see fit. I like roasted red peppers and a little hot sauce in mine, I eat it for a snack with pepper strips and carrot and celery sticks, my daughter loves it with pretzel chips. Healthy and delicious snack!

hummus

Ingredients:

1 garlic cloves, mashed and minced
1 15 oz cans garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
1/3 cup roasted tahini
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup water or liquid from beans
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
dash salt, to taste
dash pepper, to taste
parsley, for garnish

Place all ingredients except salt and pepper in blender, blend for 2 minutes or until well blended, pour into a bowl, add seasonings to taste, cover and refrigerate. This should last 4-5 days in refrigerator. You can also play around with seasonings and use this as a healthy spread for wraps or sandwiches, with pita bread, rice cakes, or whatever, bring out your creativity! Enjoy!
