Power of Positive

Every day when I wake up I first stretch out my legs in hopes that they will hold me, then before I get out of bed I say a prayer for all the things I am grateful for, then I remind myself of all the things I want to do today… I want to be kind, tolerant, compassionate, and generous every day.

Sometimes I make an effort to remember something special that another person did for me and thank them, or remember someone else’s special day, or that their child did something cool, or whatever. I think people like to be remembered, I know I do, & that is the Golden Rule. We all have an essential desire to be thought of well by others, the best way to do that is to do it first!

A woman that was very special to me died recently, she was a kind, gentle, compassionate soul, and a person I would like to emulate more than any other. My legacy to Shirley is to try to always be this way. I don’t always wake up happy, I don’t always remember birthdays and prom and anniversaries, and sometimes I am flat out impatient and rude. My goal is to every day work on this, I always love people so that part comes easy, I just have to remember to show them.

I also remind myself to be good to myself, I deserve some love and attention as well. I decide what workout I will do, what healthy foods I will eat, and how I will care for myself and others today. Sometimes caring for myself means cutting someone out of my life, if a person respects your needs they will not deliberately hurt your feelings, if they do not really care about you they have no business in your life, I deserve so much more than second choice or back up plan.

Taking 5 minutes to start your day on a positive note makes a difference all day long, if anything bad happens remember your gratitude list, take a few minutes to meditate and come back to yourself.

Positive thinking is so healthy, wearing a smile causes others to smile, and always remember this: the kind words you say to another may be the only kind words they hear today. When you see a lady at the store all dressed in pink with a flower in her hat don’t laugh, say I love your use of color, or I love pink too, or something. When the man at the hardware store helps you find what you need tell him how much you appreciate his knowledge and willingness to help.

If you believe in karma, all the love you give will be brought back to you. If you don’t believe in it, there is a special kind of inner peace that come from knowing you did your best today to be a good person. Oh, and hug someone today, hugs are healthy! Enjoy your day!
