1. “I’m not as ___ as other people.”

Maybe someone else is smarter than you, or better looking, or more talented. Although it may be true, comparing yourself to other people is very damaging to your self- esteem. How can you learn to love yourself if you’re always focused on what you don’t have? The key to overcoming this type of thought is to focus on your good qualities, and always remember how those good qualities benefit your life.

2. “There’s no point in trying because I know I will fail.”

This type of thinking is a logical fallacy. There is no way to know before you try something, whether you will succeed or fail. However, one thing you do have control over is whether you give something your best shot. If you give your best effort to something and persevere, chances are you will succeed. If you catch yourself thinking that there’s not point in trying, remind yourself that that’s simply not true.

3. “Life is hard.”

It is undeniable that life can be very difficult at times. This is an unavoidable fact. However, constantly thinking to yourself, “life is hard” or “life is so painful” can be very damaging to your outlook and attitude. Instead of holding these beliefs, choose to focus on the positive instead. Think about all the good things that happen to you every day. The more you appreciate the good in life, the less you think about the bad, and the less difficult life becomes.

Thinking to yourself that you’re unable to do something that you want to do, will cause you pain. Instead of believing this, you can focus on the qualities you have that will help you succeed. By remembering the ways in which you can succeed, you become more and more able to achieve your goals.

5. “People don’t like me.”

This thought is a classic hallmark of low self-esteem. The more often you let yourself believe it, the more self-fulfilling it becomes. If you think people don’t like you, you’re more likely to behave in a way that isn’t charming to others. Focus on why people should like you, and build a positive attitude. The more positive and happy you are, the more liked you will be.

No one knows what the future holds. Thinking that you’ll never be good at something is a common excuse for never trying. However, this makes no sense! How do you know you won’t succeed unless you give it your best effort? Believe in yourself and you can achieve any goal!

7. “There is no hope.”

This is a very sad thought indeed. It can be very easy to convince yourself that things will never get better. However, it would do you good to remember this: your future is in your hands! By challenging negative thought patterns, you can become much happier. Focus on the positive and be your best self.
