Obesity has become one of the number one health concerns today worldwide in the schools, home, and at the workplace. Although people are combating the problem with diets, exercise, and lifestyle changes, there are still areas on the body that are stubborn and refuses to slim down. One specific area that is common to many where the struggle is an ongoing battle is the belly.

6 Reasons Your Belly Fat Isn't Going Away

Why Belly Fat Doesn’t Go Away

Genetics. Genetics play a part in why belly fat is hard to dispose of. As stated in an article found on America’s Guide to Health and Beauty website, “We’ve heard a lot lately about the importance of being rid of belly fat and how those with a pear shape are better off than those with an apple shape. New research from an international group of more than 400 scientists in 280 facilities has discovered more genetic variables that play a role in obesity and fat.

Lifestyle. A person’s way of life also plays a great role in why fat is stagnant. If their daily routine is sedentary, then they probably will get very little daily activity. Whether it’s working at a desk job or watching television, the only part of the body that gets a full workout is the arms or fingers, which only can worsen the matter.

Nutritional Intake. A continuous diet of sweets, fried foods, and salty snacks is not the answer to getting rid of belly fat. These foods are high in trans fats, carbohydrates, and sodium and they will only increase the waistline.

Stomach framework. Losing belly fat can be a challenge. One reason is because of the fat location and construction. An article on Mayo Clinic webpage states, ” The trouble with belly fat is that it’s not limited to the extra layer of padding located just below the skin (subcutaneous fat). It also includes visceral fat — which lies deep inside your abdomen, surrounding your internal organs.”2 It is the visceral fat that results in the unappealing appearance.

Age. As one gets older, the muscle mass has a tendency to decline; therefore allowing fat to take over. Exercising becomes a small part of daily activities, which can lead to lesser maintenance of a healthier lifestyle.

Resolution for Losing Belly Fat

Diet. A balanced nutritional diet can never be said enough to maintain a healthy lifestyle. An article on Livestrong.com states, ” Avoid food high in sugar, calories and saturated fat by searching for high percentages on the food labels. Consume a balanced diet of lean protein, nuts, seeds and complex carbs such as vegetables and fruits.”3

Surgery. Some people opt out for surgery as a way to get rid of belly fat. To name a few, they include tummy tucks, liposuction, tumescent liposuction, and thermage.

Exercise. Short and intense workouts are recommended for belly fat loss. They may include walking on the treadmill, power walking, riding a bike, sprinting, or jogging. Perform these workouts two to three times a week.
